Deadpool 2-Review

Deadpool2MovieHaving to follow such a successful film, especially in the comic book genre is no easy feat.  Deadpool 2 had to at least be as good as its original and that exactly what it is.  Instead of trying to surpass the fan and critical success of Deadpool, the sequel is just the next leg of the race taking the baton for another furious and fast ride.

All of the talk that this movie was not living up to expectations in test screenings was obviously coming from source that did not know what they are talking about.  How could this movie not be successful? The cast alone has the prowess to excite audiences with a perfect balance of comedy and action.  Ryan Reynolds dazzles as Deadpool again with fourth wall breaking that melded this film with the comic better than the first one did.  Josh Brolin, hot off the success of Thanos and Infinity War, could not have been better. Brolin does not only fit well in this universe and portray a character well, he is Cable.  The returning cast of characters bring the same shock, awe, and wonder that they did in the first with an improved character development of Colossus.  The one character and actor that stole the film was Zazie Beets as Domino.  With the success of her new comic book, written by Gail Simone and drawn by David Balderón, Domino was going to have to live up to the hype in this film.  Beets does a wonderful job of displaying how heartfelt this character can be while also being a bad-ass action star.  The issue with Domino was going to be how luck can be shown on a movie screen, a joke about this is included in the movie.  The luck was done perfectly and will make comic book and movie fans wanting more and more of the character down the road.

While the plot is not as strong as other comic book movies, an argument can be made that it does not have to be, the film is still strong.  The action in this film was better than the first.  In the first, it was a lot of Deadpool being the action her. Deadpool 2  gave everyone there piece of the pie including characters that are new to the Deadpool-verse.

The aspect that sets this installment apart from the first is the heart that it shows.  The first film had heart but it was more about the shock and awe of what fans were seeing on the screen.  Deadpool 2 does not have the advantage of having audiences walk in and not know what to expect.  This film had to grow beyond the first film.  The heart of the film is family.  As in any X-Men universe movie, family is everything.  Everyone in the world wants to be a part of something and this film is all about bringing the family together.

Overall, this film is exactly what it is supposed to be.  A second installment that has to build on the success of the first while being its own entity.  A film with wonderful action, the perfect amount of comedy throughout, and heart that brings the viewer on a roller coaster ride.  A roller coaster that audiences will wish they could get another ride as soon as the car pulls into the station.

Finally, Deadpool 2 contains the best mid-credits scenes ever that audiences will not want to miss so say in your seats for just a few minutes.
